When life gets too complicated, simplify. (A Brief Reflection on Christmas Eve)

On this most holy of nights, the all-powerful Son of the Almighty God, chose to be born as a simple child, born to simple parents, in a poor and simple stable, visited by poor and simple shepherds.

And there lies the key to peace of heart and mind, freedom of spirit, and a life that once recaptures the hopefulness and freshness of our childhood Christmases: simplicity.

When things get too complicated and rough: “simplify”.

Life is really simple. We adults are the ones who too often complicate it.

There’s a reason Christmas is attractive to the young and young at heart – it reminds us of the simplicity, the gentleness, the hopefulness of our individual childhoods – when our lives were full of tremendous potential, when our dreams were fresh, our visions were new and full of possibility.

Let that be God’s gift to us this Christmas and throughout the coming year, the gift of a return to simplicity. When life gets tough and challenging, difficult and complicated: “simplify”.

Let us be as we once were – children full of hope, full of peace, full of freedom of heart, mind, body and soul.

Seek simplicity in all things, and breathe once more the air of freedom, and experience once again that peace of mind and heart only simplicity can bring.

Merry Christmas!
